The Golden Jubilee Emblem

At the centre of the Emblem is the Imam's crest. The fifty crescents surrounding the Crest represent the half century of the spiritual leadership of Mawlana Hazar Imam. The outer ring embodies a verse from the Holy Qur'an (Surah 4, Ayat 1) rendered in calligraphy in the Fatimid Kufic script and reads as follows:

His Highness the Aga Khan, spiritual leader of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, yesterday committed himself to support democratic processes, to find means to help the ultra-poor, and to address political and theological tensions through consensus amongst all Muslims.

The Aga Khan highlighted the value of civil society and how its effectiveness could contribute towards better processes of democratic government. In many countries of Asia and Africa, the Aga Khan said, “Democracy is young and still relatively ineffective in support of modern development activities. While a strong civil society can and does help to counter-balance such ineffectiveness, the processes of democratic government must also receive more attention and support

The Imamate is a hereditary office, and the Imam is responsible for guiding the practice of the faith of the Ismaili community. In matters of faith, he makes the decisions. As Muslims, the Ismailis affirm the fundamental Islamic testimony of truth, the Shahada, that there is no God but Allah and that Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family) is His Messenger. They believe that Muhammad was the last and final Prophet of Allah, and that the Holy Quran, Allah's final message to mankind, was revealed through him. Muslims hold this revelation to be the culmination of the message that had been revealed through other Prophets of the Abrahamic tradition before Muhammad, including Abraham, Moses and Jesus, all of whom Muslims revere as Prophets of Allah.

SPIEGEL: Does Islam have a problem with reason?
Aga Khan: Not at all. Indeed, I would say the contrary. Of the Abrahamic faiths, Islam is probably the one that places the greatest emphasis on knowledge. The purpose is to understand God's creation, and therefore it is a faith which is eminently logical. Islam is a faith of reason.

The Aga Khan has emphasised the view of Islam as a thinking, spiritual faith, one that teaches compassion and tolerance and that upholds the dignity of man, Allah's noblest creation. In the Shia tradition of Islam, it is the mandate of the Imam of the time to safeguard the individual's right to personal intellectual search and to give practical expression to the ethical vision of society that the Islamic message inspires. Addressing, the International Conference on the Example (Seerat) of the Prophet Muhammad in Karachi in 1976, the Aga Khan said that the wisdom of Allah's final Prophet in seeking new solutions for problems which could not be solved by traditional methods, provides the inspiration for Muslims to conceive a truly modern and dynamic society, without affecting the fundamental concepts of Islam

The role entrusted to me does not, in the world of today, permit to cherish any political ambitions. Should we allow future generations of Muslims to live without the self-respect of our own cultural and spiritual symbols of power, to practise their faith without also being reminded of that sense of scale in relation to the universe around us which is so particularly ours? And that goes right through the revelation of Islam, it goes to the tradition and the life of the Prophet, and the Prophet's wife, Khatija, was a woman who participated actively in daily life. Islam is an all encompassing faith and it gives direction to every aspect of one's life. It urges the individual to lead a balanced life, one that strives to accommodate both material progress and spiritual well-being. Our belief is that the thing which separates man from the animals is his power of thought. Anything that impedes this process is wrong. Therefore alcohol is forbidden.

Canada has succeeded in an area where the developing world has one of its greatest needs: How do you build pluralist civil society in the developing world? Look at Africa. Look at Asia. Change means opportunity for those who are well prepared to manage it. But change can also be disorienting, particularly when it erodes the structures, values and symbols that have provided shape and meaning in a given society and culture. [Zanzibar 1997]-- Aga Khan IV

Prince Rahim said in his speech: Our Ismaili tradition, however, has always accepted the spirit of pluralism among schools of interpretation of the faith, and seen this not as a negative value, but as a true reflection of divine plenitude. Indeed, pluralism is seen as essential to the very survival of humanity. Through your studies you have known the many Qur’anic verses and hadiths of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) that acknowledge and extol the value of diversity within human societies. You all know, I am sure, the hadith to the effect that differences of interpretation between Muslim traditions should be seen as a sign of the mercy of Allah.

There is no need to discard the great traditions of our faith. There is every need to adapt and invigorate them in the light of the quite altered circumstances of today. [Speech 12 Feb. 1958]-- Aga Khan IV

Mawlana Hazar Imam thanked Governor Perry for the true Texan hospitality. “The American ethic and ideal — the Texan ethic and ideal — has always been one of openness to others and openness to the future. It is an ethic of opportunity, which the Ismaili community deeply shares.”

And your Lord has commanded that you shall not serve (any) but Him, and goodness to your parents. If either or both of them reach old age with you, say not to them (so much as) "Ugh" nor chide them, and speak to them a generous word. And make yourself submissively gentle to them with compassion, and say: O my Lord! have compassion on them, as they brought me up (when I was) little. (Al_Quraan_017:023-024)

The Prophet Muhammad said, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him: Your Heaven lies under the feet of your mother (Ahmad, Nasai) .

A man came to the Prophet and said, 'O Messenger of God! Who among the people is the most worthy of my good companionship? The Prophet said: Your mother. The man said, 'Then who?' The Prophet said: Then your mother. The man further asked, 'Then who?' The Prophet said: Then your mother. The man asked again, 'Then who?' The Prophet said: Then your father. (Bukhari, Muslim).

Abdullah ibn Amr related that the Messenger of Allah said: The major sins are to believe that Allah has partners, to disobey one's parents, to commit murder, and to bear false witness (Bukhari, Muslim).

Yes beg for knowledge; plead for insight. If you do, you will know what it means to fear the Lord and you will succeed in learning about God. It is the Lord who gives wisdom; from him come knowledge and understanding. He provides help and protection for those who are righteous and honest. He protects those who treat others fairly, and guards those who are devoted to him.

3.Advice To Young People

My teachings will give you a long and prosperous life. Never let go of loyalty and faithfulness. Tie them round your neck. If you do this, both God and people will be pleased with you.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know. Remember the Lord in everything you do, and he will show you the right way. Never let yourself think that you are wiser than you are; simply obey the Lord and refuse to do wrong. If you do, it will be like good medicine, healing your wounds and easing your pains. Honour the Lord by making him offering from the best of all that your land produces. If you do, your barns will be filled with grain, and you will have too much wine to be able to store it all.

When the Lord corrects you, my son, pay close attention and take it as a warning. The Lord corrects those he loves, as parents correct a child of whom they are proud.

Whenever you possibly can, do good to those who need it.Don't plan anything that will hurt your neighbours; they live beside you, trusting you. Don't be jealous of violent people or decide to act as they do, because the Lord hates people who do evil, but he takes righteous people into his confidence.

4.The Benefits Of Wisdom

Listen to what your father teaches you, my son.Pay attention, and you will have understanding. Get wisdom and insight! Love wisdom and she will bring you honour.Your education is your life - guard it well.

5. Warning Against Adultry

The lips of another man's wife may be as sweet as honey and her kisses as smooth as olive oil, but when it is all over, she leaves you nothing but bitterness and pain. She will take you down to the world of the dead; the road she walks is the road to death.

Be faithful to your own wife and give your love to her alone.

There are seven things that the Lord hates and cannot tolerate

a proud look

a lying tongue

hands that kill innocent people

a mind that thinks up wicked plans

feet that hurry off to do evil

a witness who tells one lie after another

and someone who stirs up trouble among friends

Warning Against Adultery

Do what your father tells you, my son, and never forget what your mother taught you. Keep their words with you, locked in your heart. Their teaching will lead you when you travel, protect you at night, and advise you during the day. Their instructions are a shining light; their correction can teach you how to live. It can keep you away from bad women, from the seductive words of other men's wives. Don't be tempted by their beauty; don't be trapped by their flirting eyes. A men can hire a prostitute for the price of a loaf of bread, but adultry will cost him all he has.

......treat wisdom as your sister, and insight as your closest friend.

In Praise of Wisdom

The Lord created me first of all, the first of his works, long ago. I was made in the very beginning, at the first, before the world began. I was born before the oceans, when there were no springs of water. I was born before the mountains, before the hills were set in place, before God made the earth and its fields or even the first handful of soil. I was there when he set the sky in place, when he stretched the horizon across the ocean, when he placed the clouds in the sky, when he opened the springs of the ocean and ordered the waters of the sea to raise no further than he said. I was there when he laid the earth's foundations.

I was beside him like an architect, I was his daily source of joy, always happy in his presence - happy with the world and pleased with the human race.

Those who do not find me hurt themselves; anyone who hates me loves death.

Wisdom and Stupidity

If you correct conceited people, you will only be insulted. If you reprimand evil people, you will only get hurt. Never correct conceited people; they will hate you for it. But if you correct the wise, they will respect you. Anything you say to the wise will make them wiser. Whatever you tell the righteous will add to their knowledge.

To be wise you must first have reverence for the Lord. If you know the Holy One, you have understanding. Wisdom will add years to your life. You are the one who will profit if you have wisdom, and if you reject it, you are the one who will suffer.

Solomon's Proverbs

Wise children make their fathers proud of them; foolish ones bring their mothers grief.

Wealth that you get by dishonesty will do you no good, but honesty can save your life.

The Lord will not let good people go hungry, but he will keep the wicked from getting what they want.

Being lazy will make you poor, but hard work will make you rich.

A sensible person gathers the crops when they are ready; it is a disgrace to sleep through the time of harvest.

Good people will receive blessings. The words of the wicked hide a violent nature.

Good people will be remebered as a blessing, but the wicked will soon be forgotten.

Sensible people accept good advice. People who talk foolishly will come to ruin.

Honest people are safe and secure, but the dishonest will be caught.

Someone who holds back the truth causes trouble, but one who openly criticizes works for peace.

A good person's words are a fountain of life, but a wicked person's words hide a violent nature.

Hate stirs up trouble, but love over-looks all offences.

Intelligent people talk sense, but stupid people need to be punished.

The wise get all the knowledge they can, but when fools speak, trouble is not far off.

Wealth protects the rich; poverty destroys the poor.

The reward for doing good is life, but sin leads only to more sin.

People who listen when they are corrected will live, but those who will not admit that they are wrong are in danger.

Anyone who hides hatred is a liar. Anyone who spreads gossip is a fool.

The more you talk, the more likely you are to sin. If you are wise, you will keep quiet.

A good person's words are like pure silver; a wicked person's ideas are worthless.

A good person's words will benefit many people, but you can kill with stupidity.

It is the Lord's blessing that makes you wealthy. Hard work can make you no richer.

It is foolish to enjoy doing wrong. Intelligent people take pleasure in wisdom.

The righteous get what they want, but the wicked will get what they fear most.

Storms come, and the wicked are blown away, but honest people are always safe.

Never get a lazy person to do something for you; he will be as irritating as vinegar on your teeth or smoke in your eyes.

Obey the Lord, and you will live longer. The wicked die before their time.

The hopes of good people lead to joy, but wicked people can look forward to nothing.

The Lord protects honest people, but destroys those who do wrong.

Righteous people will always have security, but the wicked will not survive in the land.

Righteous people speak wisdom, but the tongue that speaks evil will be stopped.

Righteous people know the kind thing to say, but the wicked are always saying things that hurt.

The Lord hates people who use dishonest scales. He is happy with honest weights.

People who are proud will soon be disgraced. It is wiser to be modest.

If you are good, you are guided by honesty. People who can't be trusted are destroyed by their own dishonesty.

Riches will do you no good on the day you face death, but honesty can save your life.

Honesty makes a good person's life easier, but the wicked will cause their own downfall.

Righteousness rescues those who are honest, but those who can't be trusted are trapped by their own greed.

When the wicked die, their hope dies with them. Confidence placed in riches comes to nothing.

The righteous are protected from trouble; it comes to the wicked instead.

You can be ruined by the talk of godless people, but the wisdom of righteous can save you.

A city becomes great when the righteous give it their blessing; but a city is brought to ruin by the words of the wicked.

It is foolish to speak scornfully of others. If you are sensible, you will keep quiet.

No one who gossips can be trusted with a secret, but you can put confidence in someone who is trustworthy.

A nation will fall if it has no guidance. Many advisers mean security.

If you promise to pay a stranger's debt, you will regret it. You are better off if you don't get involved.

A gracious woman is respected, but a woman without virtue is a disgrace.

Lazy people will never have money, but aggressive people will get rich.

You do yourself a favour when you are kind. If you are cruel, you only hurt yourself.

Wicked people do not really gain anything, but if you do what is right, you are certain to be rewarded.

Anyone who is determined to do right will live, but anyone who insists on doing wrong will die.

The Lord hates evil-minded people, but loves those who do right.

You can be sure that evil people will be punished, but the righteous will escape.

Beauty in a woman without good judgement is like a gold ring in a pig's snout.

What good people want always results in good; when the wicked get what they want, everyone is angry.

Some people spend their money freely and still grow richer. Others are cautious, and yet grow poorer.

Be generous, and you will be prosperous. Help others, and you will be helped.

People curse someone who hoards grain, waiting for a higher price, but they praise the one who puts it up for sale.

If your goals are good, you will be respected, but if you are looking for trouble, that is what you will get.

Those who depend on their wealth will fall like the leaves of autumn, but the righteous will prosper like the leaves of summer.

Those who bring trouble on their families will have nothing at the end.

Foolish people will always be servants to the wise.

Righteousness gives life, but violence takes it away.

Those who are good are rewarded here on earth, so you can be sure that wicked and sinful people will be punished.

Those who love knowledge want to be told when they are wrong. It is stupid to hate being corrected.

The Lord is pleased with good people, but condemns those who plan evil.

Wickedness does not give security, but righteous people stand firm.

A good wife is her husband's pride and joy; but a wife who brings shame on her husband is like a cancer in his bones.

Honest people will treat you fairly; the wicked only want to deceive you.

The words of the wicked are murderous, but the words of the righteous rescue those who are threatened.

The wicked meet their downfall and leave no descendants, but the families of the righteous live on.

If you are intelligent, you will be praised; if you are stupid, people will look down on you.

It is better to be an ordinary person working for a living than to play the part of someone great but go hungry.

Good people take care of their animals, but wicked people are cruel to theirs.

A hard-working farmer has plenty to eat, but it is stupid to waste time on useless projects.

All that wicked people want is to find evil things to do, but the righteous stand firm.

The wicked people are trapped by their own words, but honest people get themselves out of trouble.

Your reward depends on what you say and what you do; you will get what you deserve.

Stupid people always think they are right. Wise people listen to advice.

When a fool is annoyed, he quickly lets it be known. Sensible people will ignore an insult.

When you tell the truth, justice is done, but lies lead to injustice.

Thoughtless words can wound as deeply as any sword, but wisely spoken words can heal.

A lie has a short life, but truth lives on for ever.

Those who plan evil are in for a rude surprise, but those who work for good will find happiness.

Nothing bad happens to righteous people, but the wicked have nothing but trouble.

The Lord hates liars, but is pleased with those who keep their word.

Sensible people keep quiet about what they know, but stupid people advertise their ignorance.

Hard work will give you power; being lazy will make you a slave.

Worry can rob you of happiness, but kind words will cheer you up.

The righteous person is a guide to his friend, but the path of the wicked leads them astray.

If you are lazy, you will never get what you are after, but if you work hard, you will get a fortune.

Righteousness is the road to life; wickedness is the road to death.

A wise son pays attention when his father corrects him,but an arrogant person never admits he is wrong.

Good people will be rewarded for what they say, but those who are deceitful are hungry for violence.

Be careful what you say and protect your life. A careless talker destroys himself.

Honest people hate lies, but the words of wicked people are shameful and disgraceful.

Righteousness protects the innocent; wickedness is the downfall of sinners.

Some people pretend to be rich, but have nothing. Others pretend to be poor, but own a fortune.

The rich have to use their money to save their lives, but no one threatens the poor.

Arrogance causes nothing but trouble. It is wiser to ask for advice.

The more easily you get your wealth, the sooner you will lose it. The harder it is to earn, the more you will have.

When hope is crushed, the heart is crushed, but a wish come true fills you with joy.

If you refuse good advice, you are asking for trouble; follow it and you are safe.

The teachings of the wise are a fountain of life; they will help you escape when your life is in danger.

Intelligence wins respect, but those who can't be trusted are on the road to ruin.

Sensible people always think before they act, but stupid people advertise their ignorance.

Unreliable messengers cause trouble, but those who can be trusted bring peace.

Someone who will not learn will be poor and disgraced. Anyone who listens to correction is respected.

How good it is to get what you want! Stupid people refuse to turn away from evil.

Keep company with the wise and you will become wise. If you make friends with stupid people, you will be ruined.

Trouble follows sinners everywhere, but righteous people will be rewarded with good things.

Unused fields could yield plenty of food for the poor, but unjust people keep them from being farmed.

S.2 BAQARA

In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful

1. A L M

2.This is the Book; in it is guidance, sure, without doubt, to those who fear Allah;

3.Who believe in the Unseen, are steadfast in prayer, and spend out of what we have provided for them;

4.And who believe in the Revelation sent to thee, and sent before thy time, and (in their hearts) have assurance of the hereafter.

5.They are on (true) guidance, from their Lord, and it is these who will prosper.

6.As to those who reject faith, it is the same to them whether thou warn them or do not warn them; they will not believe.

7.Allah hath set a seal on their hearts and on their hearing. And on their eyes is a veil; Great is the penalty they (incur).

11.When it is said to them: 'Make not mischief on the earth', they say : 'Why, we only want to make peace!'

12.Of a surety, they are the ones who make mischief, but they realise (it) not.

21.O ye people! Adore your Guardian-Lord, who created you and those who came before you, that ye may have the chance to learn righteousness

22.......then set not up rivals unto Allah......

26. .....but he causes not to stray, except those who foresake (the path)

27. Those who break Allah's Covenant.......and do mischief on earth: these cause losses (only) to themselves

29. It is He Who hath created for you all things that are on earth......

30. Behold, thy Lord said to the angels: 'I will create a vicegerent on earth'. They said, 'Will thou place therein one who will make mischief therein and shed blood? - whilst we do celebrate thy praises and glorify thy holy name?' He said: 'I know what ye know not'.

31.And He taught Adam the nature of all things; then He placed them before the angels, and said: 'Tell me the nature of these if ye are right.'

32.They said: 'Glory to Thee: of knowledge we have none, save what thou hast taught us: in truth it is thou who art perfect in knowledge and wisdom.'

33.He said: 'O Adam! tell them their natures.' When he had told them, Allah said: 'Did I not tell you that I know the secrets of heavens and earth, and I know what ye reveal and what ye conceal?'

34.And behold, we said to angels 'Bow down to Adam'; and they bowed down: not so Iblis: he refused and was haughty. He was of those who reject faith

35.We said: 'O Adam! dwell thou and thy wife in the Garden; and eat of the bountiful things therein as (where and when) ye will, but approach not this tree, or ye run into harm and transgression.'

36.Then did Satan make them slip from the (Garden), and get them out of the state (of felicity) in which they had been. We said: 'Get ye down, all (ye people), with enmity between yourselves. On earth will be your dwelling place and your means of livelihood for a time.'

37.Then learnt Adam from his Lord words of inspirations, and his Lord turned towards him; for He is oft-returning, Most Merciful.

38.We said:'Get ye down all from here; and if, as is sure, there comes to you guidance from Me,' whosoever follows My guidance, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.

39.'But those who reject faith and belie Our signs, they shall be companions of the fire. They shall abide therein.'

42.And cover not Truth with falsehood, nor conceal the truth when ye know (what it is)

43.And be steadfast in prayer; practise regular charity; and bow down your heads with those who bow down (in worship).

44.Do ye enjoin right conduct on the people, and forget (to practise it) yourselves, and yet ye study the Scriptures? Will ye not understand?

45.Nay, seek (Allah's) help with patient perseverance and prayer: it is indeed hard except to those who bring a lowly spirit -

46.Who bear in mind the certainty that they are to meet their Lord, and that they are to return to Him.

48.Then guard yourselves against a day when one soul shall not avail another, nor shall intercession be accepted for her, nor shall compensation be taken from her, nor shall anyone be helped (from outside).

51.And remember we appointed forty nights for Moses, and in his absence you took the calf (for worship), and ye did grievous wrong.

52.Even then We did forgive you; there was a chance for you to be grateful.

53.And remember We gave Moses the Scripture and the criterion (between right and wrong): there was a chance for you to be guided aright.

54.And remember Moses said.........

55.And remember ye said: 'O Moses! we shall never believe in thee until we see Allah manifestly,'.......

59.But the transgressors changed the word from that which had been given them;..........

60.And remember Moses prayed for water for his people for water for his people.........So eat and drink of the sustenance provided by Allah and do no evil nor mischief on the (face of the) earth.

61.And remember ye said:'O Moses! we cannot endure one kind of food (always); so beseech thy Lord for us to produce for us what the earth groweth........and misery:they drew on themselves the wrath of Allah. This because they went on rejecting the signs of Allah and slaying His Messengers without just cause. This because they rebelled and went on transgressing.

62.Those who believe (in the Quran) and those who follow the Jewish (scriptures), and the Christians and the Sabians, and who believe in Allah and the Last Day, and work righteousness, shall have their reward with their Lord; on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.

63.And remember We took your covenant and we raised above you (the towering height) of mount (Sinai) (saying): 'Hold firmly to what we have given you and bring (ever) to rememberance what is therein: perchance ye may fear Allah.'

77.Know they not that Allah knoweth what they conceal and what they reveal?

78.And among there are among them illiterates, who know not the Book but (see their own) desires and they do nothing but conjecture.

82.But those who have faith and work righteousness, they are companions of the Garden: therein shall they abide (for ever).

83.And remember We took a covenant from the children of Israel (to this effect): worship none but Allah; Treat with kindness your parents and kindered, and orphans and those in need; speak fair to the people; be steadfast in prayer; and practise regular charity. Then.....

84.And remember We took your covenant (to this effect) shed no blood amongst you, nor turn out your own people from your homes.........

87.We gave Moses the Book and followed him up with a succession of Apostles; We gave Jesus the son of Mary clear (signs) and strengthened him with the holy spirit. Is it that whenever there comes to you an Apostle with what ye yourselves desire not, ye are puffed up with pride? - some ye called imposters, and others ye slay!

89. ..........But the curse of Allah is on those without faith.

92.There came to you Moses with clear (signs); yet ye worshipped the calf. (Even) after that, and ye did behave wrongfully.

96.Thou wilt indeed find them, of all people, most greedy of life, even more than idolaters......

98.Whoever is an enemy to Allah and His angels and apostles, to Gabriel and Michael,- Lo! Allah is an enemy to those who reject faith.

102.They followed what the evil ones gave out (falsely) against the power of Solomon: the blasphemers were not Solomon, but the evil ones, teaching men magic, and such things as came down at Babylon to the angels Harut and Marut. But neither of these taught anyone (such things) without saying: 'We are only for trial; so do not blaspheme.' They learned from them the means to sow discord between man and wife. But they could not thus harm anyone except by Allah's permission. And they learned what harmed them, not what profited them....

104.O ye men of Faith! say not (to the Apostle) words of ambiguous import, but words of respect; and hearken (to him): to those without faith is a grievous punishment.

105....But Allah will choose for his special Mercy whom He will....

109. .......But forgive and overlook, till Allah accomplish His purpose; for Allah hath power all things.

110. ......And whatever good ye send forth for your souls before you, ye shall find it with Allah: for Allah sees well all that ye do.

113. ....But Allah will judge between them in their quarrel on the day of judgment.

116. ...everything renders worship to Him.

117. To Him is due the primal origin of the heavens and earth: when He decreeth a matter He saith to it: 'Be,' and it is.

119.Verily, We have sent thee in truth as a bearer of glad tidings and a warner: but of thee no question shall be asked of companions of the blazing fire.

124.And remember that Abraham was tried by his Lord, with certain commands which he fulfilled: He said:'I will make thee an Imam to the nations.' He pleaded: 'And also (imams) from my offspring!'. He answered: 'But My promise is not within the reach of evil-doers.'

130.And who turns away from the religion of Abraham but such as debase their souls with folly?...

136.Say ye: 'We believe in Allah, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Ismail, Isaac, Jacob, and the tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus and that given to (all) prophets from the Lord: we make no difference between one and another of them: and we bow to Allah (in Islam).'

138.(Our religion is) the baptism of Allah. And who can baptise better than Allah? And it is He whom we worship.

143.....For Allah is to all people most surely full of kindness, Most Merciful.

148.To each is a goal to which Allah turns him,then strive together (as in a race) towards all that is good. Wheresoever ye are, Allah will bring you together. For Allah hath power over all things.

152.The do ye remember Me; I will remember you. Be grateful to Me, and reject not faith.

153. O ye who believe! seek help with patient perseverance and prayer: for Allah is with those who patiently persevere.

155.Be sure We shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil) but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere, -

156.Who say, when afflicted with calamity: to Allah we belong, and to Him is our return.

157.They are those on whom (descend) blessings from Allah and Mercy, and they are the ones that receive guidance.

177.It is not righteousness that ye turn your faces towards East or West; but it is righteousness - to believe in Allah and the Last Day, and the Angels, and the Book, and the Messengers; to spend of your substance, out of love for Him, for your kin, for orphans, for the needy, for the wayfarer, for those who ask, and for the ransom of slaves; to be steadfast in prayer, and practise regular charity; to fulfil the contracts which ye have made; and to be firm and patient, in pain (or suffering) and adversity, and throughout all periods of panic. Such are the people of truth, the God-fearing.

179.In the Law of Equality there is (saving of) life to you 'O' ye men of understanding! that ye may restrain yourselves.

180.It is prescribed, when death approaches any of you, if he leave any goods, that he make bequest to parents and next of kin, according to reasonable usage; this is due from the God-fearing.

183.O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that ye may (learn) self-restraint, -

185.Ramadhan is the (month) in which was sent down the Quran, as a Guide, also clear (signs) for guidance and judgment (between right and wrong)....

188.And do not eat up your property among yourselves for vanities, nor use it as bait for judges, with intent that ye may eat wrongfully and knowingly a little of (other) people's propery.

194....but fear Allah, and know that Allah is with those who restrain themselves.

195.....for Allah loveth those who do good.

196.And complete the Hajj or Umra in the service of Allah.......

205....but Allah loveth not mischief.

207.And there is the type of man who gives his life to earn the pleasure of Allah; And Allah is full of kindness to (His) devotees.

212.The life of this world is alluring to those who reject faith, and they scoff at those who believe.....

213.Mankind was one single nation...........

217.....but graver is it in the sight of Allah to prevent access to the path of Allah, to deny Him, to prevent access to the sacred mosque, and drive out its members.......

219.They ask thee concerning wine, gambling, Say:'In them is great sin, and some profit, for men; but the sin is greater than the profit.'

225.Allah will not call you to account for thoughtlessness in your oaths, but for the intention in your hearts: and He is oft-forgiving, most forebearing.

245.Who is he that will loan to Allah a beautiful loan, which Allah will double unto his credit and multiply many times? It is Allah that giveth (you) want or plenty. And to Him shall be your return.

256.Let there be no compulsion in religion.....

258.....Nor doth Allah give guidance to a people unjust.

259....'I know that Allah hath power over all things'

263.Kind words and the covering of faults are better than charity followed by injury.Allah is free of all wants and he is most forbearing.

264.O ye who believe! cancel not your charity by reminders of your generosity or by injury......

265.And the likeness of those who spend their substance, seeking to please Allah and to strengthen their souls, is as a garden high and fertile: heavy rain falls on it but makes it yield a double increase of harvest, and if it receives not heavy rain, light moisture sufficeth it. Allah seeth well whatever ye do.

269.He granteth wisdom to whom He pleaseth; and he to whom wisdom is granted receiveth indeed a benefit overflowing; but none will grasp the message but men of understanding.

271.If ye disclose (acts of) charity, even so it is well, but if ye conceal them, and make them reach those (really) in need, that is best for you: it will remove from you some of your (stains of) evil. And Allah is well acquainted with what ye do.

272.It is not required of thee (O Apostle), to set them on the right path, but Allah sets on the right path whom He pleaseth. Whatever of good ye give benefits your own souls, and ye shall only do so seeking the 'Face of Allah'. Whatever good ye give, shall be rendered back to you, and ye shall not be dealt with unjustly.

276.Allah will deprive usury of all blessing, but will give increase for deeds of charity: for he loveth not creatures ungrateful and wicked.

280.If the debtor is in a difficulty, grant him time till it is easy for him to repay. But if ye remit it by way of charity, that is best for you if ye only knew.

284....He forgiveth whom He pleaseth, and punisheth whom He pleaseth for Allah hath power over all things.

286.On no soul doth Allah place a burden greater than it can bear.It gets every good that it earns, and it suffers every evil that it earns. (Pray:) 'Our Lord! condemn us not if we forget or fall into error; our Lord! lay not on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear. Blot out our sins, and grant us forgiveness, have mercy on us. Thou art our Protector; help us against those who stand against faith.'

S.3 AL I IMRAN

IN THE NAME OF ALLAH, MOST GRACIOUS, MOST MERCIFUL

1. A.L.M

2.Allah! There is no but He - the Living, the Self-Subsisting, Eternal.

3.It is He who sent down to thee (step by step), in truth, the Book, confirming what went before it; And He sent down Law (of Moses) and the Gospel (of Jesus) before this, as a guide to mankind, and He sent down the criterion (of judgement between right and wrong).

6.He it is Who shapes you in the wombs as He pleases.......

7.He it is who sent down to thee the Book: in it are verses basic or fundamental (Of established meaning); they are the foundation of the book: others are allegorical. But those in whose hearts is perversity follow the part thereof that is allegorical, seeking discord, and searching for its hidden meaning, but no one knows its hidden meaning except Allah and those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say: 'We believe in the book; the whole of it is from our Lord' : and none will grasp the message except men of understanding.

26.Say:'O' Allah! Lord of Power (and Rule), thou givest power to whom thou pleasest, and thou strippest off power from whom thou pleasest, thou enduest with honour whom thou pleasest, and thou bringest low whom thou pleasest: in Thy hand is all good. Verily, over all things thou hast power.

30.....But Allah cautions you (to remember) Himself, and Allah is full of kindness to those that serve him.

31.Say: 'If ye do love Allah, follow me: Allah will love you and forgive you your sins: for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.'

32.Say: 'Obey Allah And His Apostle': but if they turn back Allah loveth not those who reject faith.

33.Allah did choose Adam and Noah, the family of Abraham, and the family of Imran above all people,-

34.Offspring, one of the other, and Allah heareth and knoweth all things.

37....'from Allah:for Allah provides sustenance to whom He pleases, without measure.'

40....'Doth Allah accomplish what He willeth.'

42....'O' Mary! Allah hath chosen thee and purified thee - chosen thee above the women of all nations.

45...his name will be Christ Jesus, the son of Mary, held in honour in this world and the Hereafter and of (the company of) those nearest to Allah;

47...'Even so: Allah createth what He willeth: when He hath decreed a plan, He but saith to it 'Be', and it is!

48.'And Allah will teach him the Book and Wisdom, the Law and the Gospel,

51.'It is Allah who is my Lord and your Lord: then worship Him this is a way that is straight.'

54.And (then unbelievers) plotted and planned, and Allah too planned, and the best of planners is Allah.

59.The similitude of Jesus before Allah is as that of Adam; He created him from dust, then said to him; 'Be':and he was.

60.The truth (comes) from Allah alone; so be not of those who doubt.

74.For His Mercy He specially chooseth whom He pleaseth; for Allah is the Lord of bounties unbounded.

129.To Allah belongeth all that is in the heavens and on earth. He forgiveth whom He pleaseth and punisheth whom He pleaseth: But Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

160.If Allah helps you none can overcome you: if He forsakes you, who is there, after that, that can help you?...

172. Of those who answered the call of Allah, and the Apostle, even after being wounded, those who do right and refrain from wrong have a great reward -

179.Allah will not leave the believers in the state in which ye are now, until He separates what is evil from what is good.....

182...for Allah never harms those who serve Him.'

S4. NISAA

1.O mankind! reverence Your Guardian-Lord, who created you from a single person, created, of like nature, his mate, and from them twain scattered (like seeds) countless men and women; - reverence Allah, through whom ye demand your mutual (rights), and (reverence) the wombs (that bore you): for Allah ever watches over you.

10.Those who unjustly eat up the property of orphans, eat up a fire into their own bodies: they will soon be enduring a blazing fire!

25...but it is better for you that ye practise self-restraint: and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

28.Allah doth wish to lighten your (difficulties): for man was created weak (in flesh).

29...nor kill (or destroy) yourselves....

30. If any do that in rancour and injustice, - soon shall We cast them into the fire: and easy it is for Allah.

34.Men are the protectors and maintainers of women...

36....for Allah loveth not the arrogant, the vainglorious...

43.O ye who believe! approach not prayers with a mind befogged, until ye can understand all that ye say....

59.O ye who believe! Obey Allah, and obey the Apostle, and those charged with authority among you. If ye differ in anything among yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Apostle.......

64.We sent not an Apostle, but to be obeyed, in accordance with the Will of Allah. If they had only, when they were unjust to themselves, come unto thee, and asked Allah's forgiveness, and the apostle had asked forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah indeed Oft-Returning Most Merciful.

65.But no, by thy Lord, they can have no (real) faith, until they make thee judge in all disputes between them, and find in their souls no resistance against thy decisions, but accept them with the fullest conviction.

69.ALL WHO OBEY ALLAH AND THE APOSTLE ARE IN THE COMPANYOF THOSE ON WHOM IS THE GRACE OF ALLAH –OF THE PROPHETS (WHO TEACH) THE SINCERE (LOVERS OF TRUTH) THE WITNESSES (WHO TESTIFY) AND THE RIGHTEOUS (WHO DO GOOD) AH! WHAT A BEAUTIFUL FELLOWSHIP!

(O HAZAR IMAM ON YOUR GOLDEN TRAY MOMINS PRESENT THEIR OBEDIENCE AS REQUIRED BY ALLAH TO REMAIN UNDER A BEAUTIFUL FELLOWSHIP)

152. TO THOSE WHO BELIEVE IN ALLAH AND HIS APOSTLES AND MAKE NO DISTINCTION BETWEEN ANY OF HIS APOSTLES WE SHALL SOON GIVE THEIR (DUE) REWARDS FOR ALLAH IS OFT-FORGIVING MOST MERCIFUL

(O HAZAR IMAM ON YOUR GOLDEN TRAY MOMINS PRESENT NO DISTINCTION OF APOSTLES AS THEY WERE BEARERS OF NOOR OF ALLAH –INCLUDING ADAM, NOAH, ABRAHAM, ISMAIL, ISAAC, JACOB, MOSES, JOB, JONAH, AARON, SOLOMON, JESUS, MUHAMMAD, AND HAZRAT ALI TO SHAH KARIM THE PRESENT HAZAR IMAM)
